Tarporley Victoria FC - Match Reports

Monday 17th November    Vics 1 v Warrington Town Reserves 2 Scorer(s): (Haralambous)

Saturday 15th November 2008 - League - Away - Kick Off 3pm
Vics and promotion rivals Warrington Town put on a grand spectacle for the Cheshire League in a high paced and at times, exhillarating game of football at Cantaleiver Park.
With Town unbeaten, the Vics were seen as a genuine threat to there title winning ambitions, and the Vics fully justified themselves of that very billing.
Both sides started well, Vics comfatable on the ball with Town looking for that probing pass, the midfield area was tight, with Moore winning lots of ball, Clacher covering ground at pace and the enagmatic Pattinson, a livewire down the right hand side. The back 4 were well organised and composed on the ball, restricting Town to long range efforts in the main, of which Reckless was superbly placed to collect comfatably. Town did go close with one superb effort from there pacey number 9, but again, having been well marshalled by Abson, Reckless had his angles covered. At the other end, Pattinson shot wide, whilst Buckley smashed one effort over, with a shot on the turn. Stalemate at half time, nothing between the sides.
The 2nd half was a completely different affair, Vics flew out and pressed Town into the final 3rd, Moore pulled one shot wide, as did Pattinson, whilst Clacher's throughballs were getting behind the home sides backline, with Buckley and Pattinson again, just failing to get on the end of them. Town then went close with an equisite effort on the hour, a stunning shot from 25 yards going just the wrong side of the post. This sparked Town into a good spell of action, on 65 minutes they grabbed the lead, a ball across the edge of the 6 yard box from the right hand side, took an awful bounce as Reckless went to collect, the ball fell to Towns captain, who smashed home the opener, despite the best efforts of the excellent Steve Wright on the line. Town nearly doubled there lead soon after, but Reckless saved well. Now it was time for the Vics to up the tempo, that they did, Haralambous and Haslam were introduced as the visitors took on a new shape, straight away Haralambous went close with one effort, when the chance of the game fell to the head of Haslam, Wright retrieved the ball well and delivered a pinpoint cross which found Haslam unmarked on the edge of the 6 yard box, Haslam's connection was to faint and the ball went wide leaving Town relieved. Abson was now pushed forward and his inch perfect, throughball found Haralambous on 82 minutes, Dan took one sublime touch before bending his shot wide of Towns number 1 into the corner of the net. It was a great finish and no more than Vics deserved. Still the Vics pressed as they had now been on top for most of the half, Town broke quickly on 87 minutes, there Right winger was allowed to turn inside and deliver a terrific cross to the back post, where the Town forward scored with an excellent header, it was probably the only spot he could have chosen, but somehow, he found it, much to the delight of his teammates. Vics showed great spirit in continuing to press, again it was Haralambous who, deep into injury time, took the ball on the run before unleashing a brilliant effort toward the top corner, but somehow, Towns keeper matched it with the save of the match, brilliantly tipping the ball over the top. One final effort fell to Substitute Richards, but his effort flashed wide, leaving Town to collect all 3 points in a great game of football.
Vics should have gained at least a point from the game, but came up against a resolute and unbeaten Warrington Town side, who gave absolutely everything, the only difference betweeen 2 great team performances, one great header and one GREATER save!

Sunday 9th November    Vics 4 v Broadheath Central 0 Scorer(s): (Pattinson, Taylor, Buckley 2, 1 pen)

Saturday 8th November 2008 - Away - League - 2.15pm Kick Off
Vics moved closer to leaders Moore Utd with a comprehensive win over a Broadheath side who finished in the top 5 last season. Manager Steve Lloyd set his team up to attack and they did not disapoint, as they restricted there opponents to mere speculative efforts at goals, whilst creating enough openings to have doubled there eventual goals haul. Vics started brightly with the returning Clacher pulling the strings in Midfield, Pattinson's glancing header hit a post with Al Moore's strong run and lob over the keeper, somehow cleared off the line, Buckley and Haralambous both hit efforts marginally wide before the opener came. A mistake by Central's Left Back was latched onto by Buckley, his powerful run goalward, saw him round the keeper before cooly slotting home despite the best efforts of the despairing defender on the line. Vics continued to press, Clacher's header sailed over whilst Moore's header was brilliantly kept out by Broadheath's number 1. Central were reduced to 10 men on 35 minutes when there number 10 was dismissed, having already been booked for a crude challenge on Woods, he said to much to the official and off he went. Despite all there pressure, Vics headed in at half time with only the one goal to show for there alround domination.
The 2nd half followed a similar trend, as all afternoon, the Vics football flowed fluently, but the decision making with the final ball was poor, as chance after chance passed by. Again Moore was denied with a stunning save on 60 minutes, Haralambous and Buckley both saw efforts go agonisingly over the bar. Taylor and Haslam were introduced to give the side more natural width and delivery, those changes paid dividends as Vics sealed the points on 75 minutes, Heritage's throughball saw Taylor race clear of the backline, his first effoet was well saved by the keeper, but Taylor was on hand to prod the ball home for Vics 2nd. On 84 minutes, Vics went 3 up, Haslam's intelegant run saw him slip Pattinson in on goal, his finish was superb from an acute angle on the run. Now Vics looked like they were going to score at will, with Cooke pulling the strings in the middle and both full backs giving good options, Vics got the 4th. Again Haslam was involved as he burst into the box before being hauled down in the box for a last minute spot kick, of which Buckley made no mistake this time to seal the victory.
So a cleansheet and an away day win was all Vics deserved, and will stand them in good stead for there next challenge, a visit to Cantaleiver Park to play Warrington Town next Saturday, the only unbeaten side in the League so far this season.

Tuesday 4th November    Vics 1 v Poynton 1 Scorer(s): (Heritage)

Saturday 1st November 2008 - League - Home - 2.15pm Kick Off
Vics were made to work hard by a spirited Poynton team, who showed there resiliance in equalising with a late, late penalty.
The opening pace was fast and furious, with Poynton enjoying the lions share of position. They took a hold of the midfield early doors, and in all honesty, kept hold of it for the duration of the game. Though the visitors looked lively in possesion, it was the Vics who were creating the more clear cut chances. On 15 minutes, Buckley's pace saw him escape his marker as he bore in on goal, a neat touch to compose himself followed, but his strike was too near the keeper who made a comfatable save. That chance was followed by 2 efforts from the visiting side, one a header that was superbly saved by Reckless, with another effort the Vics number 1 did well to hold onto. Against the run of play, the Vics took the lead with a simply stunning strike. Invited to overlap and attack more, full back Heritage sent over an inviting cross that was well cut out from the defender, the ball dropped invitingly back to the rampaging full back whose strike was as clean as a whistle, as it nestled into the top corner of the net, the keeper simply, no where near it! Vics had there tails up now, Haralambous fed Buckley just before the break, who found himself clean on goal again, drawing the keeper, Buckley's touch appeared to take him around the keeper for a certain goal, but Poynton's no. 1 recovered superbly, to get a touch to safety on the ball. Poynton finished the half in the ascendancy, but Vics had the all important lead.
The 2nd half ebbed and flowed but followed a similar pattern to the 1st, Poynton holding the possesion, with the Vics looking dangerous on the break. Taylor was introduced at half time to give the side more width on the left, his mazy run and cross somehow eluded everybody as it dropped invitingly plum, in the 6 yard box. At the other end, Reckless made 2 fine stops with shots from distance. This was a day when the back 5 played superbly under pressure, with Abson the pick with yet another faultless display. On 75 minutes came the turning point in the game, a neat throughball from the ever impressive Moore saw Jones marrauding into the box, as he was about to strike, he was hauled down, the referee in no doubt, pointing to the spot. Vics number 9 Buckley stepped up, but the keeper guessed right and palmed the spot kick away. This gave Poynton the belief they needed, a succesion of corners gave Reckless some headaches, but the keeper dealt with them under pressure admirably. Then on 87 minutes, a harmless ball into the box fell to Poynton's forward, both he and Steve Wright had there eyes on the ball as they challenged in the air, the forward won it, but the header went tamely wide. The referee however, saw it differently and to the astonishment of both sets of players, pointed to the spot. The Poynton number 9 made no mistake in equalising, much to the Vics disgust.
A late rally could not produce a winning goal, Haslam's corner was dropped by the keeper, a scramble followed but it was Poynton who got the ball to safety.
So the game resulted in a draw, from the Vics point of view, it has to be seen as a good draw, as Poynton were the better side over the 90 minutes. Heritage's terrific strike was fit to win any game, but Poynton got there just rewards, all be it, with a hotly disputed penalty.

Monday 27th October    Vics 2 v Golborne Sports 3 Scorer(s): (Moore, Buckley)

Saturday 25th October 2008 - Home - League - Kick Off 2.15pm
Golborne Sports were conquers at the Flacca for the 3rd time in succesion, though the weather did play a significant part in the final result.
With high winds sweeping around the ground, Sports settled quickly with the wind behind them. There passing was slick with menacing delivery into the box. Indeed they were rewarded on 16 minutes when a cross from the right wing blew into the nearpost corner of the net, giviving Keeper Reckless no chance in guessing which direction the ball would go. Sports now had there tails up, pinging crosses and corners into the box at every oppurtunity, there Full Back had a huge throw, again, at every chance they would hurl this weapon into the 6 yard box. From a short corner and a whipped delivery, Matty Jones inadvertly steered the ball into his own net to double the visitors lead. Up against it, both the opposition and the wind, Vics battled hard to get the ball forward and ease the pressure, but on 35 minutes, Sports got there 3rd with a fine header, though unmarked, following another pinpoint delivery from the right side.
Even at 3.0 down, you just knew this game was not over, the wind would ensure that with at times, farcical spells of action, with kicks either doubling in length or halving pending the direction you were playing. The Vics spirit shone through in the closing 10 minutes of the half, against all odds, and totally out of sequence to the game, Clachers wonderful delivery was met, unsuprisingly, with a bullet header from Al Moore. With the Vics realising they had a lifeline, Buckley instantly raced through the flat back 4 and prodded home to narrow the margin further 3.2. It was now that the Vics did not want the half to end, a deep corner from Haralambous found Skipper Woods free at the back post, but his header went wide as the most unlikely of equalisers beckoned.
The expectancy was a game of 2 halves, with The Vics having the wind behind them in the 2nd half, it would be Golborne who would need to play backs to the wall. It didn't turn out that way though, Sports played the conditions superbly, retaining the ball and finding the channels that was a release to there back 4, keeper Reckless made 2 fine stops as the visitors went in search of killing the game off. Vics, though effort wise superb, were soundly beaten by a team that simply adapted to the conditions far better than we did, Henry Buckley gave the only hope of an equaliser when he raced clear, drew the keeper and was certain to score, but for an outstanding, last ditch tackle, by Sports centre halve. The only argument of the day is labelled at a poor refereeing performance, whose display had no impact on the result it has to be said, but continually he missed at time, dangerous acts from the fired up Sports players, one off the ball incident with Haslam was disgraceful, but by that time, the man in black had lost both control and the respect of both sets of players! It was no suprise he claimed he didn't see it!
So, a first home defeat for the Vics, who will all need to show the spirit displayed by the MOM, Nick Abson in next weekends encounter to Poynton.

Monday 13th October    Vics 4 v Barrow 0 Scorer(s): (Pattinson 3, Buckley)

Saturday 11th October - Home - Chester Senior Cup - Kick Off 2.30pm

Steve Lloyds reshuffled cup side provided the proof his current squad holds greater strength and depth then ever before. Richards and Jones were picked at left and right full back respectively at the expense of Wright and Heritage who have impressed this season and deserved a rest. Lloyd also included Andrew Marlor at centre half and pushed Abson into the middle of the park alongside returning James Cooke and Shining star Al Moore. The early stages showed the difference in class and league status as The Vics drove forward at Barrow with exquisite spells of ball retention. In fairness to Barrow their tactics were spot on as the ability to get numbers behind the ball kept the score lower then what it could have been. Eddy Pattinson, also returning to the side today, notched the first with a simple tap in from 5 yards out. The move started when a searching ball from Marlor found Buckley out wide who was simply to strong and quick for the lagging left back. After showing him a clean pair of heals he put the ball on a plate for Pattinson, who did the rest! Pattinson also got the second after a great run down the right flank followed by a belting top corner finish from the edge of the box.

The second half offered much of the same. Buckley got the third with a bullet header at the back post which was made available by a stunning cross from the roaming Matty Jones. Pattinson made it 4-0 with his third. Having just hit the post with a glancing header he made sure he didn’t miss out on his first ever Vics a hat-trick with a confident close range finish on 70 minutes. The game finished 4-0 and mention has to go to the Barrow keeper who was the outstanding player on the losing side, pulling off a number of fine saves throughout the game.  The Vics entertain Golbourne Sports next following a free week next weekend and should be full of confidence.

Monday 6th October    Vics 1 v Grappenhall Sports 2 Scorer(s): (Pattinson)

Saturday 4th October - Divisional Cup - Away - 2.30pm Kick Off
Vics made the trip to Grappenhall Sports with a crippling injury list, that was not helped when James Cooke broke down in the warm up and was unable to even take a place on the bench. Andy Clacher was left at home still recovering from his groin injury, whilst Marler and Rowntree both travelled, neither were anywhere near 75% fit with knee and ankle injuries respectively. Add to the woe, Al Moore was not available on the day so the Vics knew from the outset, they were up against it.
Al Rowntree to his credit played through the pain barrier in a 1st half that was played in windy and cold conditions, this did not make for a fluent passing game from either side, with the long ball into space the prefered early option. It was Sports who settled quickest with Reckless having to be alert, saving when on the edge of the box. At the other end, Daz Richards fired one blistering effort goalward that the Sports number 1 did really well to hold. Haralambous then went close with a dipping free kick over the bar from 25 yards. In a 1st Half of few chances, Reckless again saved well as Sports found space in the Vics penalty box, but at the other end, Buckley just failed to connect with a Matty Jones throughball that would have seen him clear on goal. Both sides went in at the break, knowing this game could swing either way.
Vics got off to the worst possible start after the interval, a loose ball from Rowntree allowed Sports to attack, when the ball was delivered into the box, there Number 11 rose to nod powerfully past the stranded Reckless. Rowntree was pulled off instantly as his injury had now left it impossible for him to continue, as Steve Lloyd shuffled the pack by intoducing a livewire Edd Pattinson. He was involved in the action staright away, always hungry for the ball with probing and menacing runs down the right flank. The Vics were now in control of the game, Haralambous fizzed one effort wide whilst Buckley's presence was a conatnt headache to the Sports backline. On 65 minutes Vics were level, Buckley fed Haralambous who squared to Pattinson, who simply made no mistake! Thundering into the top corner for a deserved equaliser. Vics continued to press, Taylors corner was met by 'Man Of The Match' Woods with a superb header, but in trying to flick it in, Pattinson constrived to head it off the line. That was to prove to be the turning point, Sports won a corner, the delivery was precise, the marking poor! 2.1 down.
Marler came off the bench for his first peice of action since the end of August, though still not fully fit, he settled into the back 4 comfatably, Abson was pushed into the Middle of the Midfield in an attempt to add vigour to a tired engine room. It nearly came, Buckley escaped his marker and looped the ball over the advancing keeper toward Haralambous, but just as Dan set himself, he slipped and the chance went begging.
So Vics went out of the Divisional Cup and into the Presidents. Though a defeat is always dissapointing, it came against a strong Grappenhall team who are excellent on there own patch, couple that with the Vics injury crisis, the squad delivered admirably in the face of such issues.

Monday 29th September    Vics 3 v Daten 0 Scorer(s): (Buckley, Moore, Haralambous)

Saturday 27th September 2008 - League - Away - Kick Off 3pm
Vics took the points at Daten thanks to a strong and commanding performance away from home. Possibly the most pleasing aspect of the victory was, that in all honesty, the Vics never really got out of second gear, yet still put a hardworking Daten outfit to the sword.
The game was played in perfect surroundings, a 'Carpet' like pitch on a warm sunny afternoon set the scene for the League Leaders to continue in there winning vain.
The early exchanges were good from both sides as they settled into a good tempo with good ball retention, however it was the visitors who were begining to take control. Slick passing from back to front gave the home side some chasing to do before the ball fell to Haralambous, whose effort was cleared off the line on 17 minutes. The Vics continued to press hard for the opener and they were rewarded on 25 when Moore sped clear of the Daten backline, he rounded the keeper before unselfishelly pulling the ball back for Buckley who slid it over the line.
The returning Cooke went close from 25 yards soon after with a rasping drive that eluded the post by inches, whilst Taylor delivered a couple of fantastic crosses that just eluded a Vics goalscorer. Daten were a dangerous side and pushed back Vics toward the end of the 1st half, one pinpoint cross from the right was met powerfully by the forward, but his effort grazed the top of the crossbar.
The 2nd half followed a similar route of play, Vics controlling the tempo and taking the game to the home side. Rowntree was replaced at the interval with an ankle knock, and his replacement, new boy Matty Jones played superbly in the middle of the park. Vics doubled there lead on 52 minutes, Haralambous sent over an inviting corner which Moore powered into the net.
The Vics sensed an oppurtunity to seal the points early, Haralambous sped away from the full back before drawing the keeper on the hour mark, his finish for Vics 3rd was wonderful, bending it wiyh the outside of his foot, as the ball nestled in the bottom corner of the net.
On a day when the Vics were playing with such confidence, this result was never going to slip, infact, it should have been added to, Buckley missed a 1 on 1, though whilst the Vics had possesion, they seemed quite happy to hold what they had and keep the ball. This was illustrated with a superb 2nd half performance in Central Midfield from James Cooke, who protected the back four whilst setting the play in front of him.
Generally, a really good 3 points to keep Steve Lloyds men at the top of the table, overall performances individually were very solid, which it will need to be if the Vics are to maintain there challenge!

Tuesday 23rd September    Vics 5 v Denton Town 1 Scorer(s): (Taylor, Haralambous, Moore 3)

Saturday 20th September 2008 - League - Home - 3pm Kick Off
Vics won, and won in style to storm to the top of the Cheshire League Division 2 table. Denton had caused damage the last time the two sides met, inflicting the only defeat the Vics have had so far this campaign. But a fired up home side took to the park, with the determination it wasn't about to happen again.
On a pleasant sunny afternoon at the Flacca, Vics set about the challenge with a swagger, Taylor and Haralambous were probing forward at will, delivering menacing balls into the box that were creating Towns overworked defence all kind of problems. Taylor found himself free inside the box but lifted his delicate lob inches over the bar, Buckley and Parker sent in feirce drives whilst Moores header from a corner cleared the upright. Credit Denton, they continued to plug away, trying to find the gaps that Vics back 4 were refusing to concede, but on 23 minutes, totally against the run of play, a short ball from Heritage left the back line vulnerable, a good throughball allowed the Town forward to take it around Reckless, who did well to halt the play, but the loose ball fell to the left winger who scooped the ball beyond Reckless best efforts as it dropped in the far corner of the net. It was all now on how the Vics would respond before half time, the pattern of play did not change at all, Buckleys constant pressure on the Town defenders was paying dividends, as the ball broke to the enagmatic Taylor, he dropped his shoulder leaving the full back for dead before cooly slotting in the equaliser. Still the Vics were pressing, Taylors header flashed wide and he sent another shot clear of the far post, on the other flank, Dan Haralambous was having a ball with penatrating runs at the Towns exhausted back line. He flashed one effort goalward where the keeper pulled off a superb save, but Al Moore was following in to fire the Vics into the lead. Vics made it 3.1 on 41 minutes, Taylor flighted a perfect corner into the box where Haralambous timed his jump superbly, to powerfully head into the net to send Vics in at the interval 3.1 up.
The 2nd half play did not change, Reckless made one good stop from a long range effort, but this was a day when Messers Woods and Abson were in total control, Haralambous was at it again, leaving 4 players in a spin before bending his effort onto a post, but in all honesty though a great team performance was being played out there, Al Moore stepped to the plate to finish the hapless Denton off. Again Haralambous was involved, his probing run and cut back into the box left Moore the simple task of wrapping in his 2nd. The hatrick was always going to come for the big man, sensing an area of space on the half way line, Moore powered forward, around the keeper to slot home his treble left footed, a cracking finish. Buckley sent 2 stingers from distance that the keeper did well to hold, whilst Taylor in the final seconds had a great chance to add to the scoreline, but his header went agonisingly over the bar.
So Vics produced there best performance of the season to date, against a team that sampled defeat for the 1st time this campaign, with the injuries to Clacher and Marlor recovering well, the impact off the bench from Richards, Jones and Cooke being positive, things are hotting up for the 'League Leaders'.

Wednesday 17th September    Vics 1 v Maine Road Reserves 0 Scorer(s): (Moore)

Saturday 14th September 2008 - Away - League - 3pm Kick Off
Vics tour to Manchester ended with a comprehensive victory at much fancied Maine Road Reserves. Though the scoreline does not reflect such a statement, in truth, the better side won and should have won by a much more convincing margin.
Vics settled quickly, in the opening 10 minutes, both Buckley and Moore powered there way through Roads defence for a split second sight of goal, but both efforts flashed wide. The midfield was busy trying to gain a stranglehold on the game, it was from that area that Vics took the lead. A fine throughball from Clacher found Moore, who composed himself before cooly slotting in what proved to be the winner. Though Maine Road did not create any clear cut chances in the 1st half, there delivery into the box was excellent, keeper Reckless needed to be on top of his game coming off his line, fair to say, he was equal to the challenge.
As half time beckoned, Haralambous went close twice, one a mazy run past 4 Road defenders before rifleing his effort an inch wide. Buckley to was proving a real handful with one effort superbly saved from Roads number 1.
The 2nd half painted a similar picture, Road were comfatable in possesion but with no end product, whilst the Vics had a menacing cutting edge with every attack. Haralambous blazed wide when well positioned, Buckley just about managed to get on the end of a Haralambous cross, but his effort went over from inside the 6 yard box. Next time, Buckley turned provider, his powerful run resulted in an inch perfect pass that found the rampaging Abson breaking from the back, running a good 90 yards to get on the end of it, however as Buckley did before, he somehow constrived to blast the ball over from the edge of the 6 yard box. The 2nd goal just wasn't going to come, this was confirmed when a great run from 'Samba Dan' was well met by Alley Taylor, who did superbly well to connect, somehow the Road keeper pulled off a magical save. With these chances in mind, and the score at a dangerous 1.0, Vics played out the final 10 minutes with relative ease, the back 4 keeping a tight line with keeper Reckless in control of the dangerous delivery. Some good alround performances on a warm day, with notable contributions from the bench from the likes of the excellent Mike Parker, Taylor & Richards.

Monday 8th September    Vics 3 v Eagle Sports F.C 2 Scorer(s): (Moore 2, Clacher)

Saturday 6th September 2008 - League - Home - 3pm Kick Off

Vics went into the game on the back of last weeks poor performance with 3 key players missing. Keeper Reckless was missing for the 2nd week along with Marlor through injury and top scorer Buckley who was not available.
Eagle arrived at the Flacca, a completely different proposition than in previous seasons, with a new manager, a complete group of new players and a positive outlook on there own seasons ambitions. The importance of the 1st half showing from the Vics was a given, following the Denton debacle. The game started brightly, with both sides zipping the ball across the perfect playing surface. Clacher, playing in a more advanced role than usual, was begining to pull the strings, falling just short of 1 great ball into the box from Haralambous. At the other end, Abson did well to clear off the line after a scramble in the Vics 6 yard box. This prompted Vics to play, taking complete control with crisp, precise passing and free flowing play. On 20 minutes, they took the lead, with a cracking team goal. Stevey Wright started in his own half, collecting a 1-2 with Cooke, instinctively, he found Clacher with a glorious pass to the right, a sublime touch from Clacher allowed him the space to deliver a sweeping cross to the back post, where Moore powered in a header, for a great goal.
Vics did not sit back, Pattinson was getting more and more into the game whilst Rowntree and Cooke were begining to knit the play together nicely. On 34 minutes, a surging run from Clacher saw him 1 on 1 with Eagles keeper, who made a superb block to thwart the on-fire playmaker, or so he thought. The number 8 kept the ball in as it headed towards a corner, cleverly nut-megging the centre half, before unleashing an absolute rocket into the top corner... What a strike. Eagle pressed, but could not impose themselves on a back 4 intent on a cleansheet.
The 2nd half was a different story, Eagle played long, bringing there forwards into play down the channels, full credit to them, it was not that the Vics were sluggish, Eagle just upped the tempo. Within 6 minutes of eachother, Sports had got back on level terms, leaving the Flacca stunned.
A rallying call from Skipper Woods would set the tone, as Vics looked to regroup and regain the lead. They very nearly went behind soon after, but for a brilliant save from Keeper Gregory, diving to his left to touch the ball wide. Then, on 63 minutes, that all important goal came, Haralambous swung over an inviting corner, leaving that Man Moore to power the ball home with a stunning header. Now it was a question of playing it tight, as Eagle continued to throw the effective long ball forward, with 2 lively strikers they would always have a chance, both Abson and Woods made terrific blocks, whilst Gregory made an unbeleivable save when exposed 1 on 1. It wasn't exactly backs to the wall, Haralambous went close, whilst sub Briscoe's pace got him free in the final couple of minutes, but his shot was simply to close to the keeper.
So the Vics played out the time and held on for a superb victory, in a really entertaining game between 2 strong sides. The reaction of the players after last week was superb as the Team head to Maine Road with confidence.

Monday 1st September    Vics 3 v Denton Town 5 Scorer(s): (Buckley 3)

Saturday 30th August 2008 - League - Away - 3pm Kick Off

An alround bad day at the office for the travelling Vics. Individual mistakes and lacks of concentration gifted a determined Denton side with an unasailable lead. Within 35 minutes the Vics were unthinkably 5.0 down, yet were still making inroads into the Denton final third. Henry Buckley smashed in a lifeline just before half time, as the shell shocked Vics went in at half time with there heads well and truly down.
Credit Denton, in there debut season, they play with bags of spirit and enthuasiasm and took there chances well, however in all honesty, the Vics could not have made it easier. Changes were made at the interval with the introduction of energy in the shape of Clacher and Pattinson. Harsh words must have been said at half time, as the Vics we all know turned up for the 2nd half. Al Rowntree anchored the midfield, allowing the rest to bomb forward, Pattinson put one effort the wrong side of the post, before Buckley prodded home his 2nd after good work from Moore. Vics were now solid at the back and playing with far more gusto and penetration, both Clacher and Buckley forced good saves from the keeper. Then with 20 minutes to go, Daz Richards pinpoint freekick, was angled into the corner of the net by Buckley, securing his 2nd hatrick of the season. Vics beleived, but for all there endeavour, were begining to tire, Haralambous made his own space getting in on 1on 1 with the keeper, but his effort sailed just over as the stranded keeper watched in hope. Another Richards free kick saw Al Moores free header whistle past a post, again with the keeper helpless.
Denton hung on and credit to them, Vics left themselves an absolute mountain to climb, the fact they nearly pulled it off will be stark consolation to anybody, player or management.
No motivation needed for Saturdays visit of Eagle Sports then!!!!!!

Monday 25th August    Vics 1 v Poynton 0 Scorer(s): (Buckley)

Saturday 23rd August 2008 - Away - League - 3pm Kick Off
Vics showed there battling qualities with a resolute and stubborn performance against a strong and physical Poynton side. The game was not helped by the poor playing surface, which is unusual for this League, the pitch resembled one you may expect on a rainy February afternoon.
That said, what it did do, is ensure the visitors were very much focused from the outset. This was a game for leaders and the lads did themselves proud with a gritty and hardworking performance.
Chances were few and far between in the 1st half, with both defences standing strong. Clacher's inch perfect throughball gave Haralambous a sniff at goal, but his effort was scrambled off the line by the despairing full back. Reckless made a great save on 20 minutes, pushing the goalbound effort over the bar. On 28 minutes, Vics got there reward, a clever throughball from Rowntree released Taylor in on goal, his penetrating run forced a fine save from the keeper, but that man Buckley was on hand to slot into an empty net. The game remained at a high tempo, but the Vics had the lead at the interval.
The call at half time was to hold what we had and win the battle, meaning big performances through the spine of the team, that is exactly what they gave, aibily assisted with 2 fine displays from Full Backs Wright and Heritage. Buckley went close on 74 minutes, but the Poynton keeper made a fine stop at the forwards feet, just as everyone thought it would be 2. Reckless again made a great save, turning wide a long range effort on 82 minutes. The man in the middle played an additional 5 minutes stoppage time for some reason, but the Vics were in no mood to pass up the scalp and defended comfatably as Poynton through bodies forward.
Overall, though not the comprehensive scorelines of Crewe and Malpas, this performance opitimised the desire in the squad to make that all important impact. A major positive was the strength on the bench, which the Vics will need if they are to sustain any form of challenge, over such a long, hard season.

Saturday 23rd August    Vics 7 v Malpas 1 Scorer(s): (Buckley 3, Moore 2, Haralambous, Clacher)

Wednesday 20th August 2008 - League - 6.30pm Kick Off - Home
The Vics put thier close neighbours Malpas to the sword in an unusual game that, believe it or not, they never actualy got into top gear for. The perfect start came when Buckley's wonderful finish on 8 minutes set the hosts en route to a goal feast. 5 minutes later, Clacher nodded in the 2nd after a good delivery from Parker, cut the Malpas backline down the middle. To be fair to Malpas, they continued to battle for every ball and there approach play was neat and tidy, but they failed to create anything more than half chances, 6 minutes before half time, a great delivery from Clacher, saw Haralambous cooly head into the bottom corner to send the teams in at half time, with The Vics 3 goals to the good.
Malpas pressed in the early stages of the 2nd half, but the Vics picked them off at will, restricting them to long range, speculative efforts. On 60 minutes it was 4.0, Buckley ghosting past 3 defenders with pace and power, before composing himself in bending a delightful right footed shot into the top corner, no doubt, the goal of the game. Malpas pulled one back on 65 with a debatable goal that the referee judged had crossed the line. The home side continued to pour forward, Buckley was rewarded on 78 minutes, when he struck his hat trick with a crisp finish in front of goal. Pleasing to see, Vics did not sit back, Moore added goals 6 and 7 with calm finishes in the last 5 minutes to seal the Clubs biggest evr win at this level. Coming against Malpas, a side we have aspired to get too, for so long, made it even sweeter.
In honesty, this was not a 7-1 scoreline, but the difference in class was for all to see, no doubt though, The Vics can still improve and will need to with the challenges that lie ahead.

Saturday 23rd August    Vics 1 v Grappenhall Sports 1 Scorer(s): Moore

Saturday 16th August 2008 - League - 3pm Kick Off - Away
Vics secured a pleasing point against a well organised and well drilled Grappenhall side on a cold August afternoon. Both sides started well, with Grappenhall grabbing the opener on 12 minutes following good work down the right hand side. Vics were guilty of not getting a challenge in earlier as the ball was wipped across the face of goal for an easy finish for Sports number 9.
The heads did not drop, with the back 4 marshalled to the letter by the outstanding Nick Abson, and livewire Henry Buckley running riot in the oppositions half, a leveller was on the cards. Cooke went close with a speculative effort, before some fine wing play from Tricky Taylor won a corner, his delivery was precise and Al Moore's header lethal into the top corner.... 1-1.
The rest of the game was a battle of midfield with chances sparce, Moore went close at the end of the 1st half and credit Grappenhall, they forced Reckless into 2 fine saves, 1 of them paticularly outstanding! The chance of the game fell to the evergreen Andy Clacher who burst through the midfield, collecting a 1-2 from Buckley, but flashing his effort just wide when 1 on 1. Deep in injury time, Vics had a great shout for handball but the referee waved the claims away, stating 'Accidental'.
In fairness a draw was about right, both sides went away happy in the knowledge they had not been beaten by a strong and quality side.

Tuesday 19th August    Vics 4 v Crewe FC 0 Scorer(s): Buckley(2), Haralambaus(2)

Wed 13th August. Cheshire League Division 2- Home.

Vics started their assault on division 2 in fine style with a comprehensive win over local rivals Crewe FC. It looked as though a tough pre-season had paid off, as Vics raced out of the blocks. Henry Buckley was a menace to the Crewe back line from  the word go, and he opened the scoring on ten minutes after good work from Alex Moore. Vics continued to try and play the right way, but the visitors were also providing a threat with their direct style and 3 out and out strikers, meaning the Vics back 4 could not always pass the ball out from the back as they like to do. However on the break the home side looked as if they would create opportunities every time, and so it proved as the already prolific Buckley and Dan Haralambaus sent Vics in to the half time break with a healthy 3 goal lead. Reckless at the other end however was not entirely untroubled, and skipper Abson had to marshall his troops to good effect.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Crewe eager to get the ball forward at every chance. But the impressive Vics back 4 soaked up the pressure, and reduced Crewe to mainly long-range efforts. Once again Vics looked a constant threat when breaking, the pace of Taylor and Buckley causing problems. The game was rounded off with a trademark Haralambaus strike which cannoned in off the post from all of 20 yards. Vics also completed a pleasing clean sheet against dangerous forwards, with the new look centre half pairing of Abson and Marlor looking very assured. Overall perhaps 4-0 was harsh on Crewe as they played their part, but Vics deservedly kicked off the campaign with a confidence boosting 3 points.

Tuesday 13th May    Vics 1 v FC Utd Reserves 3 Scorer(s): (Al Moore)

Saturday 10th May 2008 – League – Home – 3pm Kick Off

Vics entertained League Champions FC Utd Reserves at the Flacca, in a game where a win would have seen the boys finish in the elite top 4 of the Cheshire League Division 2.

Skipper Damien Woods led the plaudits as his men formed a guard of honour in applauding the champions onto the pitch, cheered on by a 400 strong crowd, the pleasantries ended there as a passionate Vics set about the task of chopping down the euphoria surrounding Manchester’s finest.

On a hot afternoon with lots of banter between both sets of fans, it was United who settled in the early exchanges. Though they could boast possession, it was the Vics who were more menacing when probing forward. For the opening 20 minutes, this was a battle of Midfield, with Vics edging the battle, with Broadhead and Clacher pulling the strings as they tried to create space for the impeccable Al Moore who was outstanding and at times unplayable in the opening 45 minutes. Chances were few and far between, but when Brown won a free kick just inside the Utd half, Vics smelt an opportunity, Richards’s flighted ball zipped into the box where it found that man Moore, who rose majestically to power in a header into the keepers left hand corner. With the Vics fans celebrating, Utd went straight on the attack, there front 2 in particular were more than lively, Abson and the outstanding Woods had there hands full all game with probably the best pairing they had faced this season. Though Utd were a constant threat and enjoyed large spells of possession, it was the Vics who looked the more likely to double the lead, Buckley flashed one effort wide, while Browns volley after a raking ball from Podvoiskis, beat the keeper but evaded the far post by inches. Gregory made a sharp stop 5 minutes before the interval, moving smartly off his line to smother. The last chance of the half saw Al Moore surge through the Utd backline, leaving 4 players in his wake before flashing a right footed strike agonisingly wide with the keeper clutching fresh air. Vics came in at half time knowing they needed to stop the powerful Mancunians in possession, but reflecting on several good chances to have doubled there lead.

FC Utd started the 2nd period as they had played the finish, composed and calculated in possession, but this time they began to look dangerous in the final 3rd. To be fair to the Vics back line, which now included Marler who replaced the injured Richards; they defended with a passion, how ironic that Utd got back into the game following a shabby decision from the man in black. Abson tracked the pacy number 9 back to the edge of the area before making a great challenge to deprive a goal scoring opportunity, in the melee, the FC Utd striker appeared to trip over Abson as he clamoured for the loose ball, in-explicably, the referee awarded a direct free kick on the edge of the box. The rest was history, a great strike by Utd’s number 11 gave Gregory no chance, 1.1… Oh Mr Freelove, how you got that one wrong!!!

Vics were shell shocked, 5 minutes later they fell behind, a loose throwing from the Vics saw Utd break and sweep in the 2nd from close range.

Manager Lloyd yelled for commitment and his troops did not let him down, Browns through ball found Buckley clean through, but the usually potent marksmen pushed his shot wide, Clacher went close with a stunning volley after Heritages exquisite delivery, Utds number 1 saved twice more from Buckley as the Vics closed in on the equaliser. It could not get any closer as when full back Marler drove a powerful volley that crashed against the underside of the crossbar and down, was it over the line? Some said yes, some said no, Utds captain said afterwards it was in, fair play to him, yet again the Freelove waved play on!

Within a minute, Utd had grabbed there 3rd with a goal fit for Champions, a great strike from 30 yards left Gregory with no chance with only 6 minutes to go, 3.1 was a harsh score line to take, but the Vics battled admirably to the end, still believing and still pressing until the final whistle.

So the Top 4 beckoned but we couldn’t quite take it, so close! But what a great season the lads have had, finishing in the top 6, clear of all there local rivals is a superb achievement, how fitting they should be applauded off by a 400 strong crowd, who saw 1st hand the progress this football club is making.

Tuesday 6th May    Vics 3 v Monk Sports F.C 0 Scorer(s): (Moore, Brown, Buckley)

Saturday 3rd May 2008 - Away - League - Kick Off 3pm

Tough team selections were made by manager Steve Lloyd, who welcomed back the returning Haralambous and Broadhead to the starting fold for this tricky away day at Monk Sports.
Vics had never beaten there opponents since joining the Mid-Cheshire League, so this was always going to be a tricky encounter. Vics looked nervous in the opening 15 minutes as Monk played the ball about confidently. Those nerves were somewhat eased, when on 17 minutes, Browns left sided corner was swept home by the tireless Al Moore. This set the scene for the remainder of the half with Vics looking the more likely to double the lead. Browns speculative strike on 32 minutes was destined for a wonder goal, unfortunatly it hit the inside of the post. Both Buckley and Clacher went close before the break, but Monks keeper was having an inspired game. At 1.0 up going in at half time, the Vics knew this was far from over, Monk had shown good quality on the ball, but lacked a cutting edge.
An air of composure spread through the Vics throughout the 2nd half, they seemed content to invite Monk into the final 3rd, before breaking with pace to attack Monk, again Brown and Buckley were denied by the excellent Sports number 1, but he had no chance when Brown depatched the 2nd on 55 minutes with a determined strike. Monk had there best chance to get back in it, but Gregory saved comfatably with his legs. Credit the back 4, they remained focused throughout and showed real determination in protecting that all important clean sheet.
Full back Marler broke clear, but his 1on 1 again saw the keeper come out on top as the Vics chased goals. Buckley was shoved in the back when going up for a header and the referee rightly pointed to the spot. Vics number 9 made no mistake this time, powering his spot kick into the roof of the net. Taylor and Rogers were introduced in an attempt for more goals, but on the day, this was a marvellous result against a side we hope can take maximum points from there remaining games.
Next up are FC Utd Reserves, newly crowned champions of the league. Our congratulations go out to all associated with there football club.

Friday 2nd May    Vics 2 v Malpas 1 Scorer(s): Buckley, Richards

Tuesday 29th April 2008 - Away - League - Kick Off 6.30pm

On the back of 4 straight wins and 4 cleansheets, Malpas were put to the sword in a powerful 1st half showing from the Vics. The homeside were put on the back foot early doors, when Man of the Match Clacher surging run, resulted in a powerful low drive just going wide. The partnership of Moore and Clacher in the middle paid dividends on 15 minutes, Clacher feeding Moore whose jinxing run bamboozled the Malpas back line, before squaring to Buckley who made no mistake with a neat finish to open the scoring.
At the other end, Gregory made a sharp stop to prevent an equaliser, though that would have been injust as Vics were dominating. Abson surged forward from inside his own half, leaving 3 players in his wake, before bending his shot fractionally the wrong side of the upright. On 32 minutes, Vics doubled there lead, Daz Richards firing in a stunning free kick into the bottom corner from 30 yards. Buckley remained a handful as Vics searched for number 3, but they were caught on the brake on 43 minutes, skipper Woods claimed to get the ball, but the Referee awarded the penalty, on reflection, it looked a penalty at 1st sight. Malpas Midfielder despatched the spot kick, Malpas were unexpectably back in it, 2.1 at the brake.
Vics started in the same groove as the 2nd half began, Brown escaped his marker and was about to round the keeper for number 3 when he was hauled down for a penalty, Buckley missing the resulting penalty. This appeared to lift Malpas, who raised there workrate for the remainder of the half, however Keeper Gregory was never really troubled, indeed it was Vics who nearly added to the score, Richards thundered another free kick narrowly wide, whilst Moore went close with a header.
So Vics took the points in the local derby and move into 5th spot, what was more pleasing was that the result was achieved with several key players missing, whilst the fringe players came in and took there chance against a hardworking Malpas side.

Sunday 27th April    Vics 1 v Grappenhall Sports 0 Scorer(s): (Buckley, Penalty)

Saturday 26th April 2008 - Home - 3pm Kick Off - League

Vics started slowly in a game that saw the home side get stronger as the game went on. On the back of some solid results and performances, a top 6 finish has become a realistic target in recent weeks, however the need to win games as these proves a marker of whether or not the boys will see the job through.
The opening 20 minutes was a battle of midfield that saw Cooke and Broadhead capture control on 20 minutes, for the rest of the half the Vics were not just knocking at the door, they were kicking it in! Moore forced a fine save from Sports number 1 when 1 on 1, whilst Haralambous wasted 2 glorious chances when well placed. Buckleys backward header looped narrowly wide, whilst Cookes drive from 25 yards was to close to the keeper. Not that Grappenhall were being outplayed, they just struggled to create any chances, barring high balls into the Vics half, Abson and Woods dealt comfatably all afternoon with the visitors forward line, which included the leagues top scorer Dan Sissons, though on the day, he was completely nulyfied by a controlling Nick Abson. Indeed it was the Vics number 9 Buckley who was reigning havoc on Sports back 4, a pulsating run on the stroke of half time was halted with a crude challenge, how the referee did not award a spot kick, only he knows. A frustrated Vics went in at half time with patience very much required.
The 2nd half created less chances overall, still Grappenhall pumped the high ball, whilst Vics were more than happy to play on the break. It was this approach that finally saw the breakthrough, Broadhead bulldozed his way into the box before being hauled down, even this referee could not wave the award away. Henry Buckley kept his cool and sent the keeper the wrong way, to give Vics a deserved 1.0 lead on 70 minutes. Still Vics went in search for more, but credit Grappenhall, they defended with a passion and piled men forward in search of the equaliser, though this left them exposed, they were nearly rewarded with the final kick of the game, for once Sissons got a clear run on goal, but his angled drive was saved well by the legs of Paul Gregory.
So Vics add another 3 points to the tally, with 3 games remaining there final league position sits firmly in there own hands. Next up is a visit to a rejuvinated Malpas, for what manager Steve Lloyd has predicted "Will be the hardest game of our season".

Tuesday 22nd April    Vics 3 v Congleton Town Res 2 Scorer(s): Buckley(2), Moore

Saturday 19th April 2008 - Away - League - 3pm Kick Off

Vics produced a late show to snatch the points at Congleton Town Reserves. Steve Lloyds men started confidently, and tried to pass the ball on a poor surface. After dominating the early exchanges they were unlucky to fall behind after a shot was deflected past the stranded Gregory off Woods. Vics always looked a threat when going forward with Buckley working hard up against the 3 centre halves of the home side, and Haralambous proving impossible to mark. Vics drew level when Buckley showed his marker a clean set of heels and finished well on the half volley, it looked from here as if Vics would go on from this but Congleton hit back. A ball over the top looked as if it had found the town striker well offside but the referee waved play on, and he finished well, lobbing Gregory. Vics were stunned, and had yet more chances going into half time, but went in trailing 2-1.
Vics were still confident of taking all 3 points, and approached the 2nd half with positive intent. The game opened up, which suited the Vics counter attacking style. But Congleton also looked dangerous themselves and Gregory twice had to be on his guard to save well. After a number of close calls the equaliser finally came when Al Moore was played through, the result of this was never in doubt as he produced a fine finish into the far corner. It looked as though the game was heading towards a disappointing draw when after good work by Haralambous, Buckley once again showed great energy to create himself a chance. He managed to thread his shot through the keepers legs to spark wild celebrations from the Vics players. They comfortably saw out the remaining injury time to seal a deserved victory. It wasn’t a pretty peformance, but on the day Vics looked the better side despite creditable effort from Congleton. Good performances came from 2-goal Buckley with his outstanding work rate, Aaron Brown in Midfield and full backs Marlor and Heritage who started most of Vics best attacking work. They now entertain Grappenhall on Saturday looking to build on recent good form.

Thursday 17th April    Vics 2 v Club AZ 2 Scorer(s): Haralambaus, Buckley

Wednesday 16th April 2008 - Away - League - 6.30pm Kick Off

Vics produced a battling away performance to further dent Club AZ’s promotion hopes after defeating them on Saturday. Steve Lloyd welcomed back James Cooke, and he started confidently in central midfield as the Vics passed the ball well in the opening exchanges. They deservedly took the lead when Haralambaus raced clear of the AZ back line and finished comfortably. This seemed to spark the home side into life however, and they forced Vics back, loading the box at every possibility. They were particuarly dangerous from long throws, and it was from this that they levelled the scores, a front post flick on was not dealt with and Vics were punished. Remaining under pressure, it looked as though they would go in level, but another set piece goal proved the difference at the break. Gregory saved the 1st effort but could do nothing to stop AZ converting the rebound to make it 2-1 at the break.
Andy Marlor replaced the injured Cooke at half time and imposed himself on the game as Vics gained more of a foothold. Along with Brown and Clacher Vics started to win more of the 50/50 balls again and looked dangerous when breaking with pace. At the other end AZ also looked a threat, but the Vics back 4 battled away to keep their lively forwards at bay. The game opened up with both teams desperate to take the points, but it was Vics that got the next goal to make it 2-2, Henry Buckley was the scorer with a trademark finish. AZ had chances to win it after that, but spent the last 10 minutes on the back foot as Vics were the more likely winners. Brown, Buckley and Clacher all forced saves from the home keeper but could not force the win. Overall a fair point in an entertaining 2nd half. Vics battled hard with Buckley, Abson and Marlor with his 2nd half display the pick of the bunch. Steve Lloyd will be looking for his men to capitalise on this point and keep up their momentum with a win at Congleton on Saturday.

Sunday 13th April    Vics 3 v Club AZ 1 Scorer(s): (Haralambous, Buckley, Moore)

Saturday 12th April 2008 - Home - League - 3pm Kick Off

The Vics kept the winning wheel turning with a gritty and resolute display at the Flacca yesterday. Club AZ, sitting in 2nd spot are a team that every season, challenges for the title or promotion, so the Vics really had there work cut out from the off.
An entertaining opening period saw the AZ on top, though not creating clear chances they held the measure on possesion. However, tactically the Vics edged the 90 minutes, sticking to a 'Play on the Break with Pace' gameplan. This payed dividends in the most important spell of the game. On 20 minutes Haralambous sped clear of his marker on the halfway line, 4 touches later the ball nestled deep in the corner of the AZ goal, following a sweetly bent finish from our Mancunian Marksman. Vics had there tails up, and the balance of play shifted dramatically, Haralambous was hauled down on the edge of the box, his free kick was duly despatched from top scorer Buckley to make it 2.0. Naturally, AZ rallied and applied considerable pressue, Gregory making a wonder save on 42. However, AZ did snatch a lifeline a minute before half time, when there number 4 struck home from the edge of the box.
The 2nd half required a commitment to the cause as AZ piled on the pressure, but the Vics are playing with huge belief at the moment, and they stood firm to everything the visitors could throw at them. Manager Lloyd had asked for patience at half time and to rally the storm, the Midfield 3 of the outstanding Parker and acomplaces Clacher and Moore, covered every blade of grass in the 2nd period, closing the space and limiting time on the ball, which began to frustrate the usually potent attacking threat of there Alderley Edge counterparts. It is difficult to single out any one individual, the back 4 continued to hold AZ at bay, and with the attacking options Vics currently hold, it was inevitable they made it 3.1 on 84 minutes, a smart turn from Buckley allowed Moore to nip the ball home with a technically equisite finish. The Vics could have added more late on, though that would have been cruel on an AZ side whose performance reflected there league position.
As for the Vics, well they continue to play there best football of the season, though at times this was not pretty, Vics played on the edge, with there hearts on there sleeves, and recorded yet another victory against a top 3 side.

Sunday 6th April    Vics 6 v Lostock Gralam 0 Scorer(s): Brown, Moore, Broadhead, Buckley, Haralambous 2.

Saturday 4th April - Home - League - 3pm Kick Off

Vics produced a sublime display in all areas of the pitch to score the most impressive victory of the season, as they simply caned a hardworking and well organised Lostock Gralam side.
In the absence of 3 regulars, Clacher, Heritage and captain Damo Woods, the side were led superbly by stand in skipper Nick Abson, though in fairness, today was a day where the Vics had 11 leaders on the park.
In form Aaron Brown began the rout with a looping header on 15 minutes that eluded the despairing attempts on the line to clear, from Lostocks impressive Right Back. With the back 4 simply solid, the team were allowed to attack the visitors with venom, Ryan Broadhead, who was excellent again, flashed in a majestic free kick from 25 yards to double the lead. The Vics went in at half time in total control, 2 goals to the good, to strong for there opponents.
Credit Lostock, at the start of the 2nd half, they pressured the Vics back 4, peppering balls into the area, but there was simply no way through. Abson and Parker were simply faultless, but they were abely assisted by Richards and Marler, who were simply superb. Manager Lloyd blooded young rookie Pat Anderson at full back, reverting Marlers composure into the shape of the midfield. This made all the difference, Browns pinpoint throughball was dispatched with aplom by the rampant Buckley, and Moore added number 4, with a strong finish following good work from another product of the Reserves system, Jordan Marson. At 4.0, it's fair to say, the Vics saved the best until last, maverik Dan Haralambous matched Broadheads free kick on 82 minutes with a swirving, dipping set peice that Lostocks number 1 never moved for, brilliant... But what came next was awesome, in the final minute of injury time, Lostocks keeper cleared the danger, so he thought, but the ball fell to Samba Dan Haralambous, whose control and flick led him into a thunderbolt strike from 35 yards out, that sailed into the back of the net, what a way to finish such a display. Make no bones, Lostock are a good side, who will pick up points between now and the end of the season, there position in the table is an absolute farce, the Vics were simply majestic, and have given themselves a platform to build a real strong finish on. Team selection nightmares for the gaffa next week then!!!!!

Tuesday 1st April    Vics 1 v FC Utd Reserves 0 - Game abandoned 58 minutes. Waterlogged Pitch. Scorer(s): Woods

Saturday 29th March 2008 - League - Home - 3pm Kick Off

The Gods shone on the superstars of FC Utd Reserves on Saturday. The Vics took to the field with the ambition of becoming the only club to have ever recorded a league double over there illustrious Mancunian opponents.
Manager Steve Lloyd had revved his team up with a no nonesense approach to the game, the fact that FC Utd were the much deserved runaway league leaders, beared little fruit in a frantic, high speed 1st half. On a wet pitch, both sides played flowing football, with the Vics back 4 all solid and compact, this allowed a midfield trio of leader Broadhead, Clacher and the outstanding Brown to really dictate the passage of play. Vics did all the early pressing, pegging the visitors firmly on the back foot, twice there keeper had to respond well to danger, with the Vics looking dangerous from every set peice oppurtunity they got. On 12 minutes, following an intelligant free kick from Broadhead, Skipper Damo Woods, twisted around his marker before bending in a menacing shot that deflected past the starnded Utd number 1. The visitors lost there powerful centre halve in the build up to the goal, leaving there back 4 vulnerable to the pace and power the Vics would throw at them. The remainder of the half was a battle of Midfield, with Al Moore employed in a deeper than normal role, beginning to make his presence felt all over the park. The workrate of striker Henry Buckley opitimised the level of commitment and control the Vics were showing on the game. Utd's most dangerous player, there number 9 was being played out of the game by a highly motivated Nick Abson, who was the star performer of a strong back line.
The rain came down at Half Time, with both sides creating space in the earlt exchanges of the 2nd half, Clacher and Brown both went close to connecting with through balls that would have seen them 1 on 1, whilst Utd blazed a shot wide when well positioned. The next 5 minutes really hurt as the referee abandoned the game due to the heavy rain and sodden pitch, however, by the time the disappointed players returned to the dressing room, the rain had stopped and the sun was peaking through. FC Utd, and there manager in paticular, were very grateful of the divine intervention, whilst the Vics will prosper the challenge for a 3rd time!

Sunday 16th March    Vics 1 v Broadheath Central 1 Scorer(s): Buckley

Saturday 15th March 2008. 3pm Kick Off. League. Home.

Vics blew away there Challenge Cup blues with a solid performance against a strong and physical Broadheath side. Though the hosts did not get off to the best of starts as Central took an early lead on 8 minutes, following some neat build up play. In a tight 1st half hour, the Vics, with the outstanding Broadhead, started to dominate the midfield. Podvoiskis and Moore both going close. With 10 minutes of the half remaining, Broadhead powered forward before delivering a pinpoint throughball for the dangerous Buckley to prod home, at the 2nd attempt. With the scores level at half time, manager Steve Lloyd shuffled his pack, Haralambous coming off the bench replacing Brown. Vics began to look the more threatening as the 2nd half went on, Marlers bullet header smashed against the bar with Centrals number 1 rooted to the spot. At the other end, skipper Woods made vital challenges to keep the visitors at bay, he was accompnied by a much improved Heritage, whose all round display was top drawer after the previous weeks dissapointment. As the game headed toward a draw, Marler pinged in a sublime ball that Broadhead met with another powerful header, again the keeper was rooted, again it smashed against the bar. If this was to be confirmation the result was destined for a draw, the next chance compelled the theory. Haralambous, with a sublime 1st touch in the box, turned his marker, before firing his shot toward the bottom corner of the net, somehow Centrals captain blocked it, when all thought it was the winner.
So the points were shared between 2 good footballing and evenly balanced sides, no bookings confirmed the spirit the game was played in. Overall, though disappointed not to take the 3 points, Gaffa Steve Lloyd will be happy with the response he got from the boys.

Monday 10th March    Vics 1 v Highfield Ath Res. 2 Scorer(s): Moore

Saturday 8th March - Home – Chester Challenge Cup - 2.30pm KO

Vics crashed out of the Chester Cup after a very poor display. Things didn’t start so badly as they took an early lead. Right back Heritage threaded a ball through the Highfield defence and Alex Moore finished confidently. However this didn’t set the benchmark for the game as the visitors battled hard and made it difficult for the Vics to play, and they posed questions when winning set pieces in a swirling wind. Abson had to be on hand with a smart challenge to keep them at bay. When Vics did manage to get the ball down they looked like opening up the highfield defence again, but could not increase their lead going into half time. Looking to take the game to highfield playing with the wind this time, Vics were dealt a blow when a speculative effort caught the wind and eluded keeper Gregory to square things up. As the game went on Vics got dragged more and more into a kick and rush game, which is alien to them. A combination of the poor conditions and impressive workrate from Highfield prevented them from playing thier usual passing game. Despite some continued pressure from the Vics, the game went into extra time, and it was more of the same as some good Highfield defending kept the hosts at bay. Vics were dealt a hammer blow however, when Highfield struck the winner on the break. A bad mistake from Heritage allowed the winger to get his cross in where it found a man completely unmarked on the 6 yard box to head home. Vics laid siege in the closing stages but could not rescue the lost cause. Highfield deserved thier victory and fought hard, but it must be said that the bobbly pitch and hurricane strength winds gave them an assist. However this must not detract from the fact that a number of usually reliable Vics players put in well below par performances. They must pick themselves up as next Saturday they host top 6 rivals Broadheath Central.

Monday 3rd March    Vics 1 v FC United Res 0 Scorer(s): Clacher

Saturday 1st March - Away - League - 2.30pm Kick Off

Vics produced a magnificent performance to record a famous victory against a talented young FC United side. The home side had never been beaten at home at this level, but were left frustrated by an extremely hard-working Vics performance. The game started with United passing the ball well, but with Vics looking dangerous both on the break and from set pieces. It was from one of Aaron Browns testing corners that Andy Clacher gave the visitors the lead with a crashing volley. The goal seemed to spur the home side on and they continued to enjoy the lions share of possesion, however they found the Vics in determined mood and found chances hard to come by as Woods marshalled his troops to great effect, in truth there were few scares as Vics held on to their lead going into half time. Lloyd and Brereton rallied their troops at half time and prepared them for the test that the 2nd half would undoubtably bring. United flew out of the traps in the 2nd half, and pushed the Vics right back, but the visitors held firm with some excellent blocking and tackling. Even Brown and Haralambaus, who are usually known for their skill and creativity, found themseleves breaking up the play with fine challenges. The home side were becoming more frustrated after being repelled time after time, it took them until 15 minutes from time to test keeper gregory, but he was more than up to the task. As the game went on and United threw more men forward it looked as though Vics may be able to seal the points, but break away efforts from Buckley and Clacher were well saved. The last few minutes saw Vics really backs to the wall, some commited defending saw them through to the 3 points though, with a bone crunching tackle from sub Marlor typifying the sort of effort and commitment all the lads had shown. The celebrations in the visitors dressing room showed what the result had meant. In truth it was deserved, the work rate of Clacher, Brown and co in the midfield was a feature of the performance, as was the organisation and concentration of the back 4 in the face of some lively movement and passing from the home forwards. Overall this was a magnificent result against a real quality side, who will undoubtably be promoted this season.

Monday 3rd March    Vics 2 v Grappenhall Sports 4 Scorer(s): (Bucley 2)

Saturday 16th February - Away - League - 2.30pm Kick Off
Not a good show from the Vics, who twice led through Henry Buckley, but conceded 3 late goals to throw away the points with a performance well below there usual standards.
Credit Grappenhall, they were slicker in there passing and were always 1st to the ball, dominating the midfield whilst proving a real handful in attack. The Vics plight was not helped when Centre Halve Abson had to leave the fray with a nasty foot injury, that left a half fit Damien Woods to lead the line, trying to cope with the leagues top scorer.
When Henry Buckley fired the Vics into a 10th minute lead, all was going well, but they were pegged back just before half time with a superbly worked team goal from the hosts. The Vics went in level at half time, but that was through good fortune, as Grappenhall squandered a number of good chances.
Vics improved slightly in the 2nd half, and when Buckley scored his 2nd following some fine play from Al Moore, the Vics appeared to be closing in on an unlikely victory.
It has to be said, poor defending for all 3 goals, the last deep into injury time, contributed to a miserable day for the Vics, who were definatly beaten by the better side.
Manager Steve Lloyd is going to have to really rally his troops for our next game, being the visit to run away league leaders FC Utd Reserves, who have never lost a competitive game at home.

Monday 3rd March    Vics 0 v Maine Road Reserves 0 Scorer(s):

Saturday 9th February 2008 - League - 2.30pm Kick Off
Vics ground out a hard earned point against high flying Maine Road. The visitors impressed for long spells of the game, but Vics resiliance kept them at bay. Keeper Reckless made 2 stunning saves that accompanied a fine defensive display, with Abson the pick of the back four. Heritages 1st half injury allowed Daz Richards the oppurtunitty to stake a claim in the 2nd half, he slotted in superbly.
Though chances were at a premium for both sides, Vics came close, Moores towering header needed a sharp stop from the Roads number 1 with Buckley firing narrowly wide. But it was midfielder Broadhead who came closest to the breakthrough following some fine work from Haralambous, the combative Midfielder failed to make full contact despite a despairing lunge with Roads back 4 static.
No goals, but a pleasing and well disciplined performance from the Vics, against a Maine Road side with 6 1st team players in the starting line up, due to the postponement of there 1st team game.

Wednesday 30th January    Vics 2 v Congleton Town Reserves (h) 1 Scorer(s): Haralambous(2)

26th January League

Vics made hard work of beating Congleton Town reserves at the Flacca. On a pitch suffering from the recent bad weather, both teams found it hard to play good football and the game was scrappy at times. In the 1st half chances were few and far between. Vics did have a goal from Heritage disallowed for offside and a Haralambous strike flew in, but after the ref had already blown for a free kick. Reckless was slightly the busier of the 2 keepers, and came off of his line to good effect on more than one occasion whilst dominating his box when crosses came in. After the break the game did open up and Vics looked as though they were taking control, with Alex Moore and Henry Buckley both going close. However against the run of play Congleton took the lead. A low cross produced a mix-up between Reckless and Heritage, and the Congleton winger pounced. This goal seemed to spark Vics back into life, and they put some quality balls into the visitors penalty area, one of these resulted in Dan Haralambous poking home to level things up. It now looked as though there would be only one winner, although Reckless did have to be alert to keep the congleton forwards out. Vics' winner finally came when a deep cross caused confusion at the back post and Dan Haralambous cheekily stole in to lob the keeper and secure the points. Credit must go to both teams for trying to play the right way on a tricky surface, not a pretty performance at times from the Vics but a solid 3 points to take them 5th in the table.

Division 2 League Cup Semi-Final.

Golborne Sports shocked Vics at the Flacca by knocking them out of the division 2 cup at the semi final stage. The game started at a high tempo with both teams looking dangerous but it was the visitors who drew first blood when Reckless could only parry a shot and the Golborne forward reacted quickest. Vics fought back though and were soon level when Alex Moore produced a trademark towering header. Vics were having masses off possesion and controlling the game at this stage, and had a great chance to go into half time ahead when they were awarded a penalty. However the usually reliable Buckley saw his penalty saved along with a number of other chances he had created.  Instead it was the visitors who went into half time with a lead. A mix-up between Abson and Broadhead allowed a Golborne player to pounce in the penalty area. Vics had dominated the 1st half, and better finishing and defending would have seen them comfortably in front. It was much the same in the 2nd half, Vics kept the ball but the Golborne back 4 defended superbly. Golborne always looked a threat when breaking and this was the case as they raced into a 4-1 lead to the amazment of the home crowd. Vics continued to show their character, playing some good football and laying seige to the goal but could only muster a JP Podvoiskis strike for their efforts. The disappointment of missing out on a cup final was their to see at the end. This had been one of the best performances of the season, yet defensive lapses had cost the lads dear. For all of the possesion Vics enjoyed you cannot expect to win a semi final when conceding 4 goals.

Saturday 12th January Chester Challenge Cup 1/4 final.

The difference in class really showed between these two sides with Tarporley justifying the move from the Chester and District league to the Mid-Cheshire league 2 seasons ago. Highfield came into the game full of confidence sitting second in the Chester league having lost only 2 games all season but must have been shell shocked when Tarporley fired on all cylinders from the very first minute. Highfield looked an organised side and did play good football at times but could never get to grips with the impressive attacking qualities Tarporley offered. Al Moore grabbed the first for the vics with a strong downward header off an early corner which was followed by 2 Andrew Clacher strikes, one from 30 yards out which nearly ripped the back of net off. Henry Buckley also got his first with a well taken finish. As the half came to a close Highfield did snatch a life line with a good move and a smart finish. Any chances of a second half comeback were instantly gone as Tarporley scored 3 goals in the first 15 minutes after the break. Al Moore bundled home his second and Buckley got his second and third with trademark finishes at the back post from good low crosses. As the game fizzled out, Highfield did manage a consolation goal with a 20 yard strike which found the bottom corner. With minutes left on the clock Buckley popped up again to cap an imppecable individual performance scoring his forth and Tarporleys eighth. Tarporley now aim to take this good form into Saturdays semi-final clash with Golbourne.

Tuesday 8th January    Vics 0 v Whitchurch Alport 2 Scorer(s):

Saturday 5th January - League - Away - 2.15pm Kick Off

The Vics kicked off 2008 with a dissapointing result away at Whitchurch Alport, however, the result does not provide an honest reflection of the game. Whitchurch started the better of the two sides and were on top for the first 45, using the conditions to their advantage and adopting a long ball strategy. The first period was not easy on the eye as little chances were created. Whitchurch did create one clear cut chance but keeper Gregory saved well with his feet after a low drive from inside the box. The Vics came out stronger in the second half and really started to take the game to Whitchurch. Tarporley created a number of chances which just needed prodding home but it was not to be. On 65 minutes The Vics had a penalty shout turned down by the referee, who had an appalling game, when Al Moore was clearly pushed in the box. 5 minutes later the home side had the ball in the back of the net against the run of play.  A through ball found a Whitchurch striker at least 5 yards offside, however, the man in black must have been checking his missus out on the side line as he didn't blow his whistle. The Whitchurch striker finished well but the home and away fans looked baffled by the refs decision. The Vics continued to press again creating some good chances, the best falling to man of the match Al Moore who's low shot was smothered by the impressive home keeper. With 5 minutes to go another hauler from the ref left a Whitchurch striker who was again miles off side the simple job of sliding the ball home under no pressure as the ref allowed play to continue despite the striker himself shocked at the decision. The Vics should of got something out of this game but it was not to be.

Sunday 30th December    Vics 3 v Crewe F.C 0 Scorer(s): Moore 2, Oakden

Saturday 29th December - Home - League - 2pm Kick Off

Vics secured there 2nd succesive league win with a comfatable victory over neighbours Crewe, in wet and gusty conditions.
The home side went straight after there opponents, Moore and Oakden forming well to pressure the back 4. On 10 minutes they were rewarded, a powerful run from the impressive Moore was parried by Crewe's number 1, however the big forward reacted first to power in the rebound for the opener. In fairness that would spell the end of Crewe as an attacking force, the Vics took control of the game from then onwards. That fact confirmed, when you consider keeper Gregory did not have to make another save for the duration of the game. A defence that was wonderfully marshalled by the skipper Woods allowed the Vics to focus on attack, and attack they did!
Oakden flashed one effort narrowly wide when clean through, Podvoiskis missed a great chance after a brilliantly worked free kick, whilst the probing runs of midfielders Parker and Clacher would trouble the overworked Crewe defence all afternoon. On the half hour the Vics doubled there lead, a majestic throughball from Podvoiskis saw that man Al Moore outpace the big centre half, before clipping in his 2nd past the hapless visiting keeper. 2.0 at the break, which could not come quick enough for O'reilly and his merry men!
The conditions got worse in the 2nd half, Vics continued with a good flow to the play, 5 minutes into the 2nd period, Jack Oakden raced away from the flagging Crewe back line to place the 3rd neatly into the corner of the net. This should have spelt the landslide, but Vics were left to settle for the 3. Though Moore had 2 great chances for his hatrick, Haralambous hitting the post and Marler testing the keeper, it wasn't to be.
A valuable 3 points sees the Vics overtake Crewe to sit in 5th spot, a 28 point return at year end a fair reflection of the 1st half of the season.

Saturday 22nd December, Away. 2pm Kick Off.

Eagle Sports 2 - 4 Tarporley Vics

Manager Steve Lloyd got an early Christmas present away at Eagle sports as an organised Vics 11 delivered a well deserved 3 points! Tarporley took the game to Eagle from the very first minute and it was no surprise when Al moore opened the scoring after just 5 minutes. A precise ball across the box from Henry Buckley managed to avoid the stumbling Andy Clacher but not strike partner Moore who managed to bundle the ball home from 8 yards out under no real pressure from the home defence. Vics constantly piled on the pressure but were stunned when a scuffed shot bounced into the box leaving a suprised Eagle striker to tap home after Gregory was slow off his line. Tarporley responded well to this set-back and were always in control of the game with Clacher and Parker setting the tempo of the game and out classing the Eagle center midfield duo. Jack Oakden collected the ball on the left wing on the 40 minute mark and tormented two opposing defenders before being felled by a tired tackle inside the box leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Henry Buckley stepped up and gave the keeper little chance despite diving the right way making the score 2-1 to the Vic's at half time. The second half was similar to the first, Tarporley on top and playing some smashing football despite the pitch really starting to cut up. A number of glorious chances somehow managed to stay out, with Buckley, Moore twice and Oakden all squandering chances for Tarporley. It was that man Dan Haralambous who did eventually make the breakthrough on 60 minutes. A bent ball to the back post was brought down off the chest of Haralambous before a special finish ripped into the roof of the net leaving the keeper bamboozled. With the game becoming one sided now the Vics were stunned again when a shot from the edge of the box was to hot to handle for Paul Gregory who occupied the away goal. The ball was parried to the Eagle striker who poked home from 3 yards out to create an interesting last 10 minutes. The Vics, however, ruined any come back hopes 5 minutes from time when Andrew Clacher sneaked into the box to head home a winner that his performance had deserved.

Wednesday 19th December    Vics 2 v Warrington Town Reserves 3 Scorer(s): Haralambous -2

Saturday 15th December 2007 - Kick Off 2pm.

A frantic first 45 minutes down at the Flacca saw one of the most entertaining halves of football this season where all five goals were scored. The visitors were gifted a one goal lead on only 3 minutes after an uncharacteristic mistake from skipper Woods. A misjudged back pass required Reckless, occupying the home goal, to use his hands in an awkward situation. The referee immediately awarded an indirect free kick 2 yards from goal which was dispatched by Warrington’s Craig Hall. The visitors settled after this early goal and started to play some neat football in midfield resulting in some good chances for the lively front two. Despite some good possession play from Warrington the Vic’s were never out of the game at this point and were constantly driven on by the outstanding Al Moore in the middle of the park. It wasn’t long before Dan Haralambous had the scores level. Henry Buckley received the ball just inside the opposition half and was allowed to turn and out pace Anthony Dunne in the Warrington back line before delivering a smart ball across the box for Haralambous to prod home. Five minutes later Tarporley took the lead with an exquisite finish again from Haralambous. A cross field ball eluded Craig Hall and found Dan who had cut inside from a wide position, the first touch was clever, the following chip clinical. A shocked Warrington side responded well to this setback and started to put lots of pressure on the Vics. The pressure final told on 36 minutes when Warrington produced there best move of the match. Some creative play down the right flank opened up some space for Chris Moores to deliver a fine ball across the box for Dave Berry to slide home at the back stick. On the stoke of half time Warrington were awarded a free kick 5 yards out side the box after the referee deemed Woods to have fouled Martin Bell. You may argue the referees decision but you can’t argue with the finish from Chris Moores who bent it round the wall leaving reckless no chance. The second half was again end to end but good defending from both teams and some excellent saves from Reckless kept the score at 3-2.

Saturday 1st December

Vics bounced back to winning ways with a solid victory in the league cup quater final. They dominated the early stages, and deservedly took the lead through Andy Clacher, his goal being the difference at half time despite more Vics pressure. Gregory was fairly untroubled in the home goal, as Woods marshalled his back four to good effect. In the second period Congleton enjoyed more of the possesion, and played some nice football without reallt troubling the Vics keeper. Vics two banks of four were hard to break down, and it looked as if the home side would extend their lead with Moore and Oakden a constant threat to the visiting centre backs. The game was sealed with another Andy Clacher goal, this time a fine turn and finish. In the end Vics cruised through, with a good team performance with everyone contributing. They now face Golborne sports in the semi final, to be played in feburary.

Monday 3rd December    Vics 1 v Crewe F.C 3 Scorer(s): Haralambous

Away - Saturday 24th November - Kick Off 2pm

Vics were outplayed in the opening 20 minutes and were lucky to be only the one goal down after a well worked goal from Crewe's frontmen. As the half went on, the visitors began to find rythm, with Oakden and Clacher beginning to pull the strings in the midfield.
Vics came out for the 2nd half with more drive and belief, forcing Crewe onto the back foot for long spells of the game, Buckley had a goal harshly ruled out, Haralambous and Oakden went close following mazy runs, though Reckless made a sharp save at the feet of Crewe's Hanson.
However with 10 minutes left, Haralambous used some terrific skill before lashing in a much deserved equaliser. Moments later, an excellent cross from Substitute Brown was headed agonisingly over from Moore when well placed. This sparked an end to end finale, when in the final minute, keeper Reckless was adjudged to have brought down Crewe's Hudson, the penalty was awarded and Vics number 1 dismissed. The resulting penalty was smashed home to deflate the visiting team, that said even with 10 men, they showed the spirit to force a goal line clearence from Crewe's skipper. But with gaps appearing, Crewe added a harsh 3rd.
Mnager Steve Lloyd was 'Dissapointed' and 'Suprised' with the part Crewe's manager, O'Reilly, played in the Reckless dismissal, visibly encouraging the referee to show the red card before celebrating once given. "It's not exactly what you would expect from a Cheshire league manager" reflected Lloyd, "But they are a good side, we probably deserved a point".

Tuesday 20th November    Vics 3 v Golborne Sports - Home 4 Scorer(s): Moore, Buckley, Podvoiskis.

Saturday 17th November - League - 2.15pm Kick Off

At a windswept Tattenhall it was Golborne who started better. They managed to get the ball down and play some neat football putting the Vics under some intense pressure. Stubborn defending from the home team, however, meant that stand in keeper Paul Gregory had a comfortable start to the game with little to do.
On 30 minutes a poor decision from the referee gifted Golborne the first real chance of the game. Golborne got a corner, after good work down the right flank, which was whipped in dangerously and needed a smart block from full back Heritage on the line before Jack Oakden cleaned up with what looked like a well timed challenge. The man in black, however, alleged Oakden didn’t make contact with the ball and pointed to the spot despite no appeals from the away side. The following penalty was well struck and beat Gregory but it struck the up-right and bounced back to the oncoming Golborne striker who was instantly penalised for encroaching by the referee who awarded a free kick to the Vics.

After this incident the game really started to open up allowing both teams more freedom to stretch their opponents. The deadlock was finally broken when the impressive Al Moore finished off a mesmerising solo run with an equally cool finish low under the diving keeper.

The visitors responded well and it wasn’t long before they were back on level terms. Golborne’s best player made a long run to get on the end of a throw-in from the edge of the box before a clever turn and a fabulous finish into the roof of the net leaving Gregory with no chance and the Vics team shocked.

The game was end to end now and on 40 minutes Henry Buckley, who had terrorised the Golborne back four for the previous 39 minutes, won a penalty after the visitors full back who had been impressive till this point couldn’t match Buckley’s strength and brought him down inside the box with a clumsy tackle. Buckley stepped up and did what he does best scoring his seventh goal of the season sending the keeper the wrong way.

The second half was a much more physical contest. As stressed at half time the next goal would be crucial but unfortunately it was Golborne who claimed it. It was the impressive number 11 who dealt the blow with his second of the game. After receiving the ball on the left he turned Marlor inside then outside before smashing the ball into the back of the net from an acute angle.

The Vics never let their heads go down and regained the lead on 70 minutes, when substitute Podvoiskis, who had replaced the excellent Buckley, made an immediate impact. The ball was being worked around the edge of the visitors’ box when Podvoiskis tried an audacious shot which found the bottom corner from 23 yards.

Lloyd introduced Dazza Richards into the middle of the park to provide a shield in front of the back four for the final 20 minutes. The game was now going from end to end and in spite of Golborne enjoying more of the ball it looked like the Vics had done enough. It was not to be though as the visitors somehow snatched victory with two very late goals. The first was the away sides’ best move of the match. The two strikers linked up well stretching the back four leaving an easy finish for the number 10 who tapped home from 5 yards out after a tidy square ball from his strike partner. Things went form bad to worse for Lloyd’s men as with the last kick of the game Golborne stole all three points. The Vics were undone on this occasion by a corner, not for the first time this season, which after numerous attempts to clear finally got poked home by a Golborne player who couldn’t believe his luck.

All focus is now on the away fixture next Saturday against Crewe FC where three points is the only option.

Tuesday 20th November    Vics 4 v Blacon Youth Club - (Home) 4 Scorer(s): Wright, Oakden, Moore, Brown

Vics won 3.1 on Penalties (Oakden, Buckley, Wright)

Vics got off to a dreadful start trailing 2.0 after only 5 minutes, due to lapses in concentration at key times. Keeper Reckless held his hands up for the 1st one, but slack marking the reason for the 2nd. Despite the Vics playing the better football it was BYC who added there 3rd on the half hour mark that effectively should have killed the game off. Manager Steve Lloyd changed the shape of his sluggish side and was rewarded when local hero Steve Wright smashed in a stunning 25-yarder to fetch the game to life again.
Whatever was said at half time, certainly did the trick as Vics raced out of the traps in the 2nd half, completely dominating there West Cheshire League opponents, Oakdens smart finish gave Vics the 2nd, before Buckley twice, Brown and Moore, whose header was cleared off the line, all went close. With Vics doing all the pushing, BYC became tired and sloppy, when Al Moores towering header equalised for the home side, the game appeared to have turned unbelievably toward an unlikely comeback. This looked set to be confirmed when Aaron Browns attempted cross decieved thr BYC keeper and sailed into the back of the net. The comeback was complete - 4.3.
Just as the dust settled, BYC rolled one last turn of the dice, remarkably they equalised with a cross come shot that sailed in off the far post. With the scores level at 4.4, the 2 tired teams fought out a goalless extra time, as the game went to spot kicks.
With Richards taking 1st and missing, keeper Reckless made up for his earlier error by brilliantly saving 3 penalties from 4. Though Abson hit the bar with his effort, deadly duo, Buckley and Oakden both netted, which left Stevey Wright to slam home the winner and send the Vics into the Challenge Cup quarter finals.

Wednesday 14th November    Vics 0 v Daten (a) 2 Scorer(s):

Saturday 3rd November

Another disappointing result for the Vics, who were left to rue 2nd half missed chances as they went down at Daten. They started brightly with Alex Moore having a header cleared off the line, however they struggled to settle in the 1st half and Daten deservedly took the lead on the half hour. The home side passed the ball better than the Vics and continued to look a threat. Steve Lloyd changed things round at half time, and Vics rallied after the break creating a number of openings. They should have equalised on a number of occasions, with Abson having the best of the chances. They were left to rue these missed opportunities when Daten broke as the game became end to end and sealed the win by converting a penalty.

Thursday 1st November    Vics 2 v Monk sports (h) 4 Scorer(s): Buckley(pen), Haralambaus

Saturday 27th October

This was a strange game in which Vics played some great football, but due to sloppy defending lost the game. Both teams started brightly, however it was the visitors who somehow found themselves 2 up inside 15 minutes through a harsh penalty and a poor goal from a corner. Vics fought back, and started to pass the ball really well. It wasn’t until just before the break when they got their reward as Buckley slotted home a penalty to get them back in the game. Vics continued to pass the ball after the break, and it was no surprise when Haralambaus levelled things up with a fine strike. From here it looked like there was only 1 winner until Monk hit back straight away with another poor goal from a corner, Vics poured forward in search of an equaliser that never came, and with gaps at the other end Monk finished the game off with a 4th. A disappointing result considering the football that was played at times.

Vics team - (4-4-2) GK Gregory, RB Abson, CB James, CB Woods, LB Heritage, RM Haralambaus, CM Clacher, CM Broadhead, LM Brown, CF Oakden, CF Buckley. Subs: Marlor, Richards, Taylor, Wright.    MOM - Broadhead

Thursday 1st November    Vics 2 v Eagle Sports 1 Scorer(s): Buckley, Taylor

Saturday 20th October

Vics left it late to secure a 3rd straight win at home to Eagle Sports. They started well, and created a number of openings that Oakden and Moore were unable to take. Eagle had shown glimpses without threatening the home goal until they punished Vics’s poor finishing by taking the lead just before half time with a superb goal from 25 yards. After the break the home side struggled to pass the ball as well as they did in the 1st half, and the game became scrappy. Eagle could have extended their lead before Henry Buckley looked to have salvaged a point 5 minutes from time. Vics then pushed on for the win, and it came deep into injury time when Ally Taylor finished a low cross from Dan Haralambaus, Lloyds men out of jail this time, and will look to improve on this performance against Monk.

Tuesday 16th October    Vics 3 v Lostock Gralam (a) 1 Scorer(s): Moore (2), Buckley

Saturday 13th October

Vics had to battle for the points at Lostock Gralam. They flew out of the blocks with Andy Clacher hitting the post early on, and Haralambaus twice having efforts saved. Alex Moore put them in front with a fine finish, but Lostock hit back by scoring with their first effort on goal from 25 yards. Henry Buckley saw that the visitors went into half time ahead by continuing his recent good form in front of goal. The game was scrappy at times in the 2nd half but Vics still looked to have the more quality. Oggy James defended well in his 1st league start, as the back four held firm. The result was sealed when 5 minutes from time sub Aaron Brown slipped in Alex Moore for his 10th of the season. A good away performance from the boys who battled hard throughout.
